Though it’s unknown how the US federal government will respond to Amendment 64 in Colorado and I-502 in Washington, representatives from both states have introduced federal legislation to force the federal government to cease and desist marijuana prosecution in states which democratically decide to decriminalize. Many of us are hopeful this will result in the complete termination of the absurdity that is marijuana prohibition, but it appears politicians who have no say in US and state policy have already begun inserting their views.

I’m not terribly optimistic how this will play out. The Obama Administration was responsible for providing military support to Libyan and Syrian rebels at the behest of “international law,” as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta put it. The implication was the Constitution and Congress had no bearing on the president’s decision to deploy the military. This doesn’t exactly bode well.
